About Us

Inter-Island Construction was created in 2006 and have undertaken projects all over the island ranging from residential, commercial, industrial and civils. We have also undertaken a number of projects in Madagascar.

How We Started

The two brother/ owners Grant and Russell Caine began their work experience on the island of Mauritius in 1992. Both South African born have since made Mauritius their home.

Inter-Island Construction Ltd has quickly developed a name for delivering quality products in a professional manner. We offer our services as general contractors, but also undertake contracts on a design and build basis or the construction management route.

Grant Caine

Construction Director

received his NH Dip in construction management at the Durban University of Technology. Grant started his career as owner of Caine Construction Ltd in KZN, South Africa where he undertook a variety of projects including; Numerous residential developments, a viewing platform cantilevered over the 100m Howick Falls, the rhino and giraffe capture centre at Imfolozi game reserve which was considered to be the largest facility of its type in the world. Victoria Shopping Centre with a floor area of 15,000 sqm and Polly Shorts Shopping Centre with a floor area of 6,000 sqm both of which are in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Grant joined his Brother Russell in Mauritius in 1998.

Russell Caine

Commercial Director

received his NH Dip in Quantity Surveying at the Durban University of Technology. Russell started his career by being sent to Mauritius with Stocks and Stocks Construction ltd as quantity surveyor for a project of 300 low cost houses.
The contract was a one-year contract, but Russell would eventually make Mauritius his home.

Russell worked in South Africa for a while with the family business,
before permanently returning to Mauritius in 1998 to work with REHM Grinaker Ltd for a short period before starting Ireko Design and Construction with BAI where he was the GM.

As at 2021 Grant and Russell run Inter Island Construction together and have more than 60 combined years’ experience in the construction industry of which nearly 50 years have been in Mauritius.
